Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) CEO Elon Musk made an appearance via video conferencing at a Russian government-run innovation forum at the invitation of the President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov, according to the Moscow Times.

Musk promised to bring production of his company’s electric vehicles to Russia in the future.

“I think we’re close to establishing a Tesla presence in Russia [and] more broadly in Kazakhstan and neighboring regions,” he said. “Over time, we will look to have factories in other parts of the world, potentially Russia at some point.”

He also predicted all transport would become electric in the future with the exception of space rockets that would still use combustion.

According to the news story, there are approximately 200 Tesla cars in Russia despite the absence of any charging infrastructure.

Shares of Tesla are down 19% year-to-date after a great run in the stock last year. But it still remains the largest car company in the world based on market capitalization by some distance.
