Intel Corp CEO: reorganization changes ‘will sharpen our focus and execution’

Intel Corp (NASDAQ: INTC) announced on Wednesday organizational changes with appointments into major leadership roles as the company seeks to enhance innovation and execution in critical areas of operation.  The company’s CEO, Pat Gelsinger, announced the appointment of two new technical leaders into the executive team and various changes to the company’s business areas.

Leadership reorganization.     

Raja Koduri and Sandra Rivera, both current Intel executives, will take on new senior roles in the executive, with tech industry veterans Greg Lavender and Nick McKeown also joining the company. Gelsinger commented:

Following the changes, the company’s Data Platform Group will now be split into two different business divisions.

Intel’s AI and Datacenter strategy

Sandra Rivera has been appointed AI and Datacenter executive vice president and general manager. Rivera will be in charge of the unit’s efforts to develop cutting-edge data center solutions for a cloud-based environment, such as field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and Intel® Xeon® technologies. She will also be in charge of the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) strategy.

Network and Edge Group to combine                 

On the other hand, Nick McKeown, a general manager and senior vice president of a new Network and Edge Group, will join the company full-time from July 6. With the reorganisation, the company’s Network Platforms Group, Connectivity Group, and Internet of Things Group will now merge into one business unit with the mission of advancing technology and product leadership from the network to the intelligent edge.

Software, HPC and graphics

The company is also creating two business units focusing on software and high-performance computing and graphics. Greg Lavender joins Intel as a CTO and SVP and general manager new Software and Advanced technology Group. The unit will drive the company’s unified goal of software to ensure Intel remains a differentiator.

Renowned GPU computing technology innovator Raja Koduri will head the Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics Group. This is a newly established division that will focus on high-growth areas of graphics and HPC.
